Royal Ballet of Flanders, also known as Ballet Vlaanderen, is the ballet company that became part of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (OBV) in 2014. OBV works from Antwerp and Ghent, Belgium, bringing dance, opera and music theatre together.

History and artistic identity

Jeanne Brabants founded Ballet Vlaanderen in 1969. Its merger with Opera Vlaanderen in 2014 brought the two art forms into one organisation. Today, the dance programme ranges from ballet to contemporary work and includes productions combining opera and dance.

The dancers and repertoire

OBV describes its dancers as a collective ensemble without ranks. Their daily practice includes ballet, Countertechnique® and other approaches suited to the repertoire. The company has performed works by choreographers including Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Pina Bausch and Jan Martens.

See the official ballet profile for the company’s artistic approach and team information.
