Will Tuckett is an English choreographer and director whose work crosses ballet and theatre. The New National Theatre, Tokyo presents his Nutcracker as a new production for the 2025–26 season and his second creation for the National Ballet of Japan, following The Tragedy of Macbeth.
A particular Nutcracker
The credit “after Lev Ivanov” places this staging in dialogue with the ballet’s earlier choreography. Tchaikovsky’s music is arranged by Martin Yates, while Colin Richmond provides sets and costumes. These are production credits; the work The Nutcracker also exists in other choreographic versions.
Follow Clara’s journey
The production’s story connects Clara with the Sugar Plum Fairy and the assistant with the Prince. While watching, follow how costume, setting and partnering carry the characters between the family celebration and the Kingdom of Sweets.
Explore the filmed performance
The recording made on 25 December 2025 features Yui Yonezawa and Takafumi Watanabe. The recording guide keeps that cast and its viewing options attached to the specific performance.
